Christine’s Priorities for Wake County
The County Commission directly affects our quality of life in Wake County. My experience and county-wide knowledge will help County government meet its strategic goal: “to provide excellent public services through collaborative, inclusive and sustainable solutions that prioritize the well-being of our community.”
Below are just some of the issues that I plan to focus on, and I welcome your thoughts and feedback on what’s important to you!

Economic success depends on stable housing and transit. Housing stability leads to education and workforce stability, and housing stability also supports public safety. County-based strategies should include preservation of existing housing, as well as long term strategies of adding more mixed income and affordable developments. County staff should work more collaboratively with municipal leaders to address the housing infrastructure needed for our diverse population on a countywide basis. Linking expanded transit options, including Bus Rapid Transit, to housing options will remain critical for expanding economic mobility.

I am a fierce advocate for public education. I have supported better funding for our public schools for more than 25 years. I have a depth of experience, mostly gained from my 11 years as a school board member and years as a PTA leader in my children’s public schools. I am running for County Commission because these are critical times for public schools. We need Commissioners who are committed to improving the Wake County Public School System, which can only be done with supported, well-paid staff and educators.

I support improving access to public health and social services for Wake County residents. Public health saves lives and benefits everyone; its programs remain critically needed investments for our county. My specific priorities include: addressing the foster care system and improving children’s services; expanding maternal and child health programs; embedding more county nurses and social workers in our public school buildings; extending the life of the solid waste landfill; and expanding substance use treatment services in our county.

Budgets and policies should reflect our shared values for open government and transparency. For all policy and budget decisions, we need fair and sound decision making. As a Wake County Commissioner, I will make sure diverse voices and perspectives are heard and have impact on public policies. This is especially needed as we consider public safety measures and improved Emergency Services.
